RISE Peer Educators

RISE Peer Educators are paid student leaders who promote wellness and help educate their peers through outreach, programs, events, workshops and digital content.

Peer Educators receive training in areas including mental well-being, substance use, sexual health, healthy relationships, violence prevention and bystander intervention. They also have opportunities to develop leadership, communication and professional skills while working directly with RISE staff.

What Peer Educators Do

• Facilitate presentations and workshops
• Support RISE events and campus outreach
• Develop educational tabling and programming
• Contribute to the RISE Blog and digital outreach
• Help create educational and social media content
• Serve on topic-focused committees
• Connect students with campus resources

Peer Educator Requirements

• Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
• Remain in good disciplinary standing with Texas Tech University.
• Complete required online and in-person training.
• Participate in Raider Welcome Week programming as assigned.
• Commit approximately eight hours each week to RISE activities, including committee meetings, office hours, workshops, outreach and events.

Apply to Be a Peer Educator

Peer Educator applications operate on a semester-based cycle. Students selected for the program complete training before beginning their work with RISE.

Application Cycles

Spring semester hiring: Applications generally open during the summer and remain available through Oct. 31. Selected students complete onboarding and training before beginning in January.

Fall semester hiring: Applications generally open in January and remain available through March 31. Selected students complete onboarding and training before beginning in August.

RISE may occasionally open additional hiring periods based on staffing needs. Current opportunities and deadlines will be posted here when available.

Volunteer With RISE

Students who want to support RISE without becoming Peer Educators can volunteer with the team. RISE also works with practicum students.

Volunteers help with outreach, programs, events and administrative projects while supporting RISE staff and Peer Educators.

Volunteer Benefits

• Training related to mental health, well-being, alcohol and drug education, sexual assault prevention, consent and other RISE focus areas
• Verified community service hours
• Hands-on experience for resumes and professional development
• Opportunities to support campus programs and student outreach
• RISE volunteer apparel and promotional items when available

Volunteer Requirements

• Participate in at least one volunteer event each month.
• Complete required university training.
• Attend a RISE volunteer training session.
• Follow RISE and university expectations while representing the program.

Other Employment Opportunities
