Javier Visits an Urgent Care Clinic

j1

Javier thinks he has the flu. First Javier calls Student Health Services but unfortunately they were already booked for the day. He really wanted to see a healthcare provider that day so Javier decided to seek care at an Urgent Care Clinic. A Student Health Patient Service Specialist recommended Javier visit waitfromhome.com to find a UMC-P Urgent Care Clinic that is in his area. She also told Javier to make sure the Provider he chose was in-network with AHP.

The Patient Services Specialist also reminded Javier that his AHP plan is an "Open Choice PPO" plan, not a "Student Health Medical Plan". She assured him this information would be important when he logged into the AHP website to find an in-network Provider.

After searching the map on waitfromhome.com, Javier finds a clinic close to his dorm. To find out what individual providers are seeing patients at the Urgent Care Clinic, he had to call the Urgent Care Clinic and ask for the names of the Providers that work at the clinic.

Javier uses the Find a Doc tool to make sure the providers at the Urgent Care Clinic are in the AHP network.

When Javier arrives at the Urgent Care Clinic, he shows his insurance card to the receptionist and pays his $50 copayment.

The provider is welcoming to Javier and agrees that Javier has the flu. He prescribes Tamiflu and asks where he would like the prescription to be sent. Javier asks the doctor to send the prescription to the Student Health Pharmacy since it is convenient to his dorm room.

Javier heads straight to the Student Health Pharmacy, pays a small fee for the prescription and heads back to his dorm for extra rest. Using an Urgent Care Clinic was not as convenient as his experience at Student Health Services, but Javier is very thankful he will soon be filling better.

Way to go, Javi!
