Celebrate the beginning of a veterinary student’s clinical rotations by supporting a white coat.

Texas Tech University's School of Veterinary Medicine will host its first White Coat Ceremony on March 17. For the 62 pioneering students, this milestone signifies their educational progression from pre-clinical training to delivering veterinary care during their clinical rotations starting in May.

White coats will be worn by students throughout their fourth and final year as they complete their clinical rotations across Texas and New Mexico, working alongside the School of Veterinary Medicine's clinical partners.

You can recognize their accomplishments by supporting a white coat or even multiple white coats with a gift of $100 per coat. However, no donation is too small or too large – any amount helps and is a meaningful acknowledgment of their achievement.

The School of Veterinary Medicine also invites those who make a white coat gift to share words of encouragement. These notes will be presented to students during the White Coat Ceremony.

“Stepping from the classroom into the clinic is a sacred rite of passage in the training of medical professionals,” said Guy Loneragan, dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine.  “Achieving this step is no mean feat. It takes tremendous determination, resilience, adaptability and a healthy dose of grit.

“Students overcome many hurdles to arrive at this stage of their education. Medical programs, including our school, mark this sacred milestone by placing a white coat on each student. It symbolizes the transformation from student to clinician and conveys the professional responsibilities society expects from veterinarians.”

Those who would like to participate in this milestone for both students and the School of Veterinary Medicine can contribute before March 8. For more information or to support a white coat, please click here or contact Payton Priest.
