Students matriculating to the TTU SVM must provide proof of required immunizations via their Med+Proctor account. Two separate agencies require vaccinations: The Texas Department of State Health Services and Texas Tech University.

Failure to provide proof of a protective rabies titer, proof of rabies vaccination, or rabies vaccine exemption will result in the student NOT being able to participate in live animal experiences and may result in final grade repercussions, potentially leading to course failure, including exclusion from clinical rotations or dismissal from the program.

Deadline for all incoming students to provide evidence of required vaccinations or vaccine exemptions via Med+Proctor is August 6, 2024.

1. Please visit the Texas Department of State Health Services for veterinary students website to see which vaccinations are required for veterinary medicine students. These may include:
1. Rabies Vaccine: Please visit the CDC (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) for vaccination or titer guidelines. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) categorizes veterinary medicine students as Risk Category 3.
2. Tetanus-Diphtheria
3. Hepatitis B Vaccine

2. Please visit the TTU Student Health Services website to see requirements for immunization compliance. Currently, TTU only requires evidence of vaccination for bacterial meningitis.

Exceptions to the Immunization Compliance requirement are as follows:

Students who cannot receive the vaccine because it would be injurious to your health and well-being must provide an affidavit or a letter signed by a physician who is duly registered and licensed to practice medicine in the United States, in which it is stated that, in the physician's opinion, the vaccination required would be injurious to the health and well-being of the student.

If a student declines the vaccine due to reasons of conscience, including a religious belief: Before you will be allowed to register for classes, you must complete and submit an original, Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Vaccine Exemption Affidavit Form- Affidavit Request for Exemption from Immunizations for Reasons of Conscience. This is the only acceptable documentation for this exemption, and this process takes a significant amount of time. The notarized affidavit can either be uploaded to Med+Proctor as a PDF or the original document sent to Texas Tech University Student Health Services within 90 days of it being notarized.
