Student Veterinary Emergency Response Association (SVERA)

SVERA Club Officer Photo

The Student Veterinary Emergency Response Association (SVERA) is the newest club at TTU SVM, this club came into existence due to the need seen during the wild fires in the spring of 2023. TTU SVM students had an opportunity to serve the surrounding communities during a time of need and we saw lots of students step up to fill this need. Due to this it was decided to start an organization to focus on this and help prepare students for the next time that it is needed. The goal of SVERA is to focus on: emergency Preparation, emergency response, and community support. We also want to prepare DVM students to be able to handle local and national emergencies in their role as a veterinarian, be a resource for communities surrounding TTU SVM in the event of natural disasters, and to offer opportunities for students to develop emergency response skills and display them in the event of a natural disaster. We are also partnered with the Student Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (SVECCS), this national organization is free to join while being a member of SVERA. We achieve these things through various hands on wet-labs and by hearing from those who have endured natural disasters. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to us as we accept members year round.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the officers by emailing us at ttu.svera@gmail.com or by going to our website at https://ttusvera.wixsite.com/ttu-svm-svera.

WMC Club Officer Photo

The purpose of the Wildlife Management Club is to use our scientific knowledge and skills to conserve and manage wildlife on a state, national, and global level. Our organization focuses especially on the conservation of, but is not limited to, big game and their native habitat.

We host monthly meetings that offer students the opportunity to learn about various topics pertaining to wildlife medicine and conservation from professionals who have committed their careers to the welfare, management, and preservation of wildlife species.

The Wildlife Medicine Club hosts an annual banquet that serves as one of our main fundraisers for the year. The purchase of a ticket secures your seat, one meal with a soft drink, and an opportunity to win numerous door prizes.

The Texas Bighorn Society has been very supportive of the Wildlife Medicine Club and our members. They host their annual work project in the spring of each year and have generously extended an invite to students who wish to be involved. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved and play an active role in the management and preservation of a Texas native big game species. More information can be found on the Texas Bighorn Society's website.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and The Dallas Safari Club - Texas Panhandle Chapter both host their annual banquet and fundraiser in the spring as well, which serve as an excellent opportunity for our members to get out into the community and represent both the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine as well as the Wildlife Medicine Club.

Joining: Prospective members must first request to join the organization through our TechConnect page and fill out our member questionnaire found under "forms." Once this has been completed, and the prospective member has paid dues, they are added as a member to the organization.
