PURPOSE: The purpose of this School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) policy document is to define the role and membership of the SVM Data Synthesis and Analysis Committee.

REVIEW: This SVM Policy shall be reviewed every third year by the SVM Data Synthesis and Analysis Committee. Revisions will be forwarded to the Dean’s Executive Leadership Council for review and disposition.

POLICY/PROCEDURE

BACKGROUND: The TTU SVM Data Synthesis and Committee has the primary role to collate and interpret information from various SVM committees to improve SVM synergy and integration. This Committee will make recommendations to the SVM Executive Leadership Council who may then make appropriate recommendations to relevant SVM committees.

ROLES OF THE COMMITTEE: The roles of the SVM Data Synthesis and Analysis Committee are to:

1. Serve as the coordinating mechanism for data related to SVM metrics;
2. Collate and analyze data (including student academic performance), provide feedback, and report results of programmatic and School outcomes to the Executive Leadership Council, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Research, and the Office of Clinical Programs where appropriate. The Committee will:
   1. Provide feedback reports of data provided by the Curriculum Committee at least biennially;
   2. Provide feedback reports of data provided by the Admissions Committee and Research Committee at least annually; and
   3. Provide feedback reports of data provided by the Clinical Programs Committee quarterly.
3. Aid in the acquisition and analysis, where appropriate, of data needed to report to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, American Association of Veterinary Medicine Council on Education, and other relevant agencies.

ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMITTEE: The Committee will perform its work to help the SVM achieve its purpose of serving rural and regional communities. The objectives of the SVM are to: 

• Graduate practice-ready, competent, and confident veterinarians who will serve rural and regional communities across Texas; 
• Provide access to affordable, high-quality veterinary medical education for Texans; 
• Develop a research-intensive School that enhances and complements the strengths of TTU and the TTUHSC and addresses the needs for research and expertise in veterinary medicine, food- and fiber-animal production, and the health sciences; 
• Provide opportunities for graduate education and research, and advanced clinical training in internships and residencies; 
• Support sustainability of livestock industries as they feed growing state, national, and global populations; and
• Improve human, animal, and ecosystem health by integrating innovative One Health activities into our education, scholarship, and service activities.

REPORTING: The Data Synthesis and Analysis Committee reports to the Executive Leadership Council. Recommendations from the committee will be reviewed by this Council for further action.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP AND MEETINGS: This committee will be made up of members, representing faculty and staff members. Each Committee member will be appointed by the Dean or the Sr. Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs: 

• Chair, to be appointed by the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs
• Sr. Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs – ex officio
• Associate Dean for Clinical Programs – ex officio
• Associate Dean for Research – ex officio 
• Chief Operations Officer
• Director of Outcomes Assessment
• Director of Admissions and Student Services
• Economist/Public Policy faculty member
• Epidemiologist/Biostatistician faculty member
• Curriculum and Assessment faculty member
• 2 faculty members representing different discipline areas
• Staff member – minutes (non-voting)

LEADERSHIP AND TERM LENGTHS: Term lengths of initial members will be staggered. Subsequent terms will be three years. Members can be renominated upon completion of their terms. The Sr. Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs will appoint the Chair of the Committee, and the Chair will serve a 2-year term.

QUORUM: A quorum, which will consist of two-thirds of the voting membership of the Committee, will be required for all meetings in which issues are to be brought to a vote. The Chair shall vote in cases of a tie.

MEETING FREQUENCY AND AGENDA: The Data Synthesis and Analysis Committee will meet on a quarterly basis or as needed. Agenda will be distributed to Committee members at least 48 hours prior to meetings.
