Scholarships

Scholarships at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine are designed to support access, affordability, and opportunity for our students. Through the generosity of our donors and partners, the School of Veterinary Medicine awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year, helping reduce financial barriers and allowing students to focus on their education, clinical training, and future careers.
Internal Scholarships
To be considered for an internal scholarship, students must complete the annual scholarship application.
For current DVM students, the application will open in January and close in March. Students will receive the application link directly from the Manager of Alumni and Scholarships.
For incoming DMV students, the scholarship application will open after students have received their R Number and TTU email address. The incoming student application will close in August.

Adams Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
- Award is to be given to a fourth-year student originally from New Mexico who plans to return to New Mexico to practice mixed animal medicine. If none meet these requirements, award may be given to a student who plans to practice veterinary medicine in New Mexico.

Amarillo National Bank Veterinary Education Scholarship
- Scholarship awards for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Number and amount of awards are left to the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
Arnold-Waddle Partners Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship will benefit students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. First preference is for awarded students to have intentions to pursue the large animal veterinary medicine field in rural areas (population 50,000 or less). Second preference is for students to have farming or ranching backgrounds and/or experiences.

Barrett & Crofoot Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship to be used for students enrolled in the School of Veterinary Medicine that have financial need.

Bickerstaff Endowed Scholarship
- To assist students attending the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo. Subject to customary eligibility requirements, limited to Texas residents. Where possible, preference should be given to students from Fisher, Nolan, and Taylor counties.

Bill and Sharon Lipham School of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship to be used for students enrolled in the School of Veterinary Medicine. Students must demonstrate academic excellence and it is preferred that students maintain a GPA of 3.5 or above. Students must be 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year.

Blonkvist Family Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
- Full four-year tuition scholarship will benefit a student of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Preference shown to a student who presents high merit and financial need. Award decisions are left to the discretion of the Scholarship Committee and Admissions Committee and can be utilized for recruitment purposes.

Bruce & Nannete Abrams Veterinary Education Endowed Scholarship
- Scholarships for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Preference is to students from Kendall, Potter, or Randall counties. Number of scholarships awarded is to be determined at the discretion of the Scholarship and Awards Committee. Scholarship(s) can be distributed to the same student for multiple years if the recipient(s) remains in good academic standing and funds are available.

Buckle Up for the Adventure with Drake and Betsy Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarships to be distributed to students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Scholarships are to be awarded to students in their final year after having completed their DVM degree. Scholarships are to be encouraged to be utilized by students to pursue "SLAMO" after graduating veterinary school: Serve, Lead, Adventure, be on Mission, Outreach.

Catherine Eckert Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to students at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine who demonstrate financial need according to FAFSA and are in good academic standing.

- This scholarship will be awarded to students at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine who demonstrate financial need according to FAFSA and are in good academic standing.

Dalton William Horn Memorial Scholarship Award
- In honor of Dalton W. Horn, who was part of the inaugural class at the SVM, but tragically lost his life in a car accident. This scholarship was established so that future generations of students have the opportunity to know Dalton.
- School of Veterinary Medicine students entering their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years are eligible to receive this award. Students should be in good academic standing and cannot receive this award twice.
- This scholarship is based on nominations made by the students, faculty, and staff.
David. L. Smith Family Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to students at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine who demonstrate financial need according to FAFSA and are in good academic standing.

Dickson-Allen Foundation Scholarship
- Scholarships for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. First preference is for students from Lavaca County, Texas. If there are no students from Lavaca County, second preference is for students from Wharton or Gonzales counties. If there are no students from the above-listed counties, third preference is for students from rural counties (population 50,000 or less) in the South Texas region.

Dr. Glenn Blodgett Memorial Scholarship Endowment
- The scholarship will benefit students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. First preference is to students who plan to pursue equine veterinary medicine. Second preference is to students who have equine backgrounds and/or experience. Third preference is to students from a rural/regional area (population 50,000 or less) who desire to practice in a rural/regional area. Students must be in their third or fourth year of their DVM degree program and be in good academic standing.

Ed Grist Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Should be awarded to veterinary student from Comal County in good standing at Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine.

El Paso Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarships for 4th year students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Preference is for students who have an interest in pursuing veterinary practice in El Paso County. Applicants will submit an essay outlining their goals to practice in El Paso County after the completion of their D.V.M. Scholarship recipients are required to complete one clinical rotation in a practice in El Paso County.

- Scholarship awards for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Gary Shores Family Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship will be awarded to students at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine who demonstrate financial need according to FAFSA. This scholarship could be awarded all four years to the same student(s) as long as the recipient(s) stays in good standing and continues to demonstrate financial need.

Gruner Family Scholarship Endowment
- Recipient must meet the following criteria: full time student enrolled at TTUSVM; classified as a third-year student at time of the scholarship funding; undergraduate degree from an accredited Texas University; high school graduate from a Texas High School; and US citizen.

Guy Loneragan Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship awards for second-year students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Preference to students from South Texas counties of: Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Dimmit, Duval, Frio, Gold, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleburg, La Salle, Live Oak, Maverick, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Victoria, Webb, Willacy, Zapata, Zavala. Second preference to students who have served in the military and are from selected counties. If none, scholarship(s) should be awarded to student(s) from selected counties.

Jane White and Joe Amerling Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
- Scholarship for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Awarded students MUST display financial need. As long as the student maintains good academic standing, the scholarship should be renewed each year prior. 1st preference is to students who are originally from a Native American reservation in New Mexico and plan to return to the reservation to practice veterinary medicine. 2nd preference is to students who have an expressed interest in serving Native American reservation(s) and/or populations of New Mexico post-graduation. 3rd preference is to students who are from a rural community and plan to return to a rural community to practice veterinary medicine.

- Scholarship to be used for students enrolled in the School of Veterinary Medicine that have financial need.

Kritser Foundation School of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
- Scholarships are to be given to students in the School of Veterinary Medicine. Preference is to students from the following Texas counties: Potter, Randall, Moore, Armstrong, and Carson.

Linda B. Grant Scholarship Endowment
- The Linda B. Grant Scholarship is a competitive scholarship to be awarded to students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents from the states of Texas, New Mexico, and/or Oklahoma. First preference is for students pursuing a degree in Veterinary Medicine who are in their third or fourth year. Recipients must be of high moral and ethical character, and have a GPA equal to or above 3.0.

Mark and Kathryn Cox Scholarship Endowment
- This scholarship will be awarded to students at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine who graduated from a high school in El Paso, Texas or New Mexico.

Michael Doherty DVM – D Bar Ranch Veterinary Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Scholarship is for students from: northwest Texas counties of Dallam and Hartley or northeast New Mexico Counties of Colfax, Union, and Harding

Michael J. Joyner DVM Endowed Scholarship
- Scholarship will benefit students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Recipients must have financial need. Preference is that recipients be Texas residents and have intentions to pursue a mixed animal veterinary practice.

- Awarded to students based on financial need and/or merit

Sigma Kappa School of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarship awarded, with preference, to a student who is a family member of a Sigma Kappa alumna, or who has an active member of a Sigma Kappa chapter from any institution of higher education, now in pursuit of a DVM degree at Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine (TTU SVM). Documentation will be requested to confirm the Sigma Kappa alumna/member was active and in good standing. If no applicants meet this preference during the planned award period, the scholarship may be awarded to any TTU SVM student in good academic standing. Awards will be for one year. Recipients may re-apply, as long as they are maintaining satisfactory progress towards a DVM degree and in good academic standing.

- Scholarship to benefit the students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Selection of recipient(s) is left to the School of Veterinary Medicine's Scholarship and Awards Committee.
South Plains Veterinary Medical Association Veterinary Endowed Scholarship
- Preference to a student from the following 13 counties: Lubbock, Hockley, Hale, Lynn, Terry, Lamb, Floyd, Crosby, Garza, Bailey, Cochran, Yoakum, or Dawson. Second preference is to a student from the Panhandle/South Plains region.

Texas Association of Dairymen Scholarship Endowment
- Scholarships for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. First preference is to students who have interest in pursuing veterinary medicine in the dairy sector. Second preference is to students with dairy backgrounds or experiences.

Thad York Scholarship
- Scholarship to benefit the students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Selection of recipient(s) is left to the School of Veterinary Medicine's Scholarship and Awards Committee.
The Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation (Amarillo Area Foundation)
- Awards preference to students having original permanent addresses or connection to the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle: Armstrong, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, Childress, Collingsworth, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Donley, Gray, Hall, Hansford, Hartley, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Moore, Ochiltree, Oldham, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, Swisher, and Wheeler. Awards are then based on relative geography, financial need, and merit.

Twanna M. Powell and Joyce Ann Marsh Scholarship
- Award for a student at the School of Veterinary Medicine who graduated from any public high school in Amarillo ISD, preference for a student who graduated from Palo Duro High School. The scholarship is renewable and should remain with the recipient(s) all four years of their DVM program.

United Family School of Veterinarian Medicine Endowed Scholarship
- This gift is to support the future School of Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinary Practice Ownership Scholarship
- Scholarships for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Preference is to students who have serious intentions to pursue practice ownership within two years of the completion of their DVM degree. Scholarships are to be awarded to second-year students. Scholarship applicants are to write a 500 to 750-word essay describing a successful privately owned veterinary hospital and why practice ownership is important to the applicant.

In addition to TTU SVM internal scholarships, students are encouraged to apply for external scholarship opportunities offered by professional organizations, foundations, and industry partners.

External Scholarships
AVMA/AVMF Scholarship for Veterans
- On June 3, 2016 the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps celebrated the centennial of President Woodrow Wilsons signing of the National Defense Act of 1916, an act that strengthened the nations military in part through the creation of a Veterinary Corps within the U.S. Army. AVMA and AVMF established a special scholarship in honor of the 100th anniversary for military veterans pursuing an education in veterinary medicine.
Auxiliary to the AVMA Legacy Endowed Scholarship
- The AVMF is extremely proud to offer the Auxiliary to the AVMA Legacy Endowed Scholarship which was created in recognition of the AVMFs long standing relationship with the Auxiliary to the AVMA. Shortly after World War II, the Auxiliary started a student loan fund to assist with the hardships facing veterinary families due to injury or death from the war.
Dechra Veterinary Products Veterinary Scholarship
- The AVMF and Dechra Veterinary Products are offering fifteen $2500 dollar scholarships to students interested in equine sports medicine, internal medicine, or dermatology. Dechra Veterinary Products is a global specialist in veterinary pharmaceuticals and a global leader in veterinary endocrinology and topical dermatology, have a broad portfolio of analgesia, anesthetics and products for the treatment of pain, and are also recognized as innovators in other specializations such as the treatment of equine lameness and differentiated generics.
Durvet Animal Health Future Food Animal Veterinarian Scholarship
- Large animal veterinarians are vital to a safe food supply in the U.S., and they are great contributors to the economic prosperity of rural communities. Durvet is looking to provide $1,000 scholarships to veterinary students that intend to work in a food animal practice upon graduation. Applicants with intentions of working in mixed animal practice in rural communities will also be considered.
Merck Animal Health Scholarship
- Merck Animal Health and the AVMF are dedicated to preserving and improving the health and well-being of animals as well as honoring exceptional veterinary students. Merck Animal Health is proud to show its dedication to veterinary students by providing $5000 scholarships to second and third year veterinary students attending accredited veterinary schools in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
The Zoetis Foundation/AAVMC Veterinary Student Scholarship
- The Zoetis Foundation/AAVMC Veterinary Student Scholarship was developed to offset educational expenses related to attaining a veterinary education. The program focuses on addressing the issue of student debt which may greatly impact the future of the veterinary profession. More than 200 scholarships worth $7,000 will be awarded to students at Full US & Caribbean AAVMC member institutions.
Merck Animal Health Diversity Leadership Scholarship
- The Merck Diversity Leadership Scholarship will recognize veterinary students who have demonstrated a record of contributing to enhancing diversity and inclusion through course projects, co-curricular activities, outreach, domestic and community engagement, research, and/or developed an early reputation for influencing others to be inclusive. These scholarships will honor the individuals who have been consistent champions of addressing inequities and underrepresentation in the veterinary profession; have advocated for social justice; and, who have advanced valuing diversity and inclusion at US AAVMC Member Institutions.
Patricia M. Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship
- The Patricia M. Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship also recognizes veterinary students who have demonstrated exemplary promise as future leaders and have made significant contributions to enhancing diversity and inclusion in academic veterinary medicine. The awardee of the Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship will only be selected from the Merck Animal Health Diversity Scholarship nominations pool.
Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program
- The Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program recognizes second-year veterinary students from underserved groups who have shown an interest in and affinity for growing leadership capabilities. Individuals selected for the program will receive financial assistance as well as resources to support them through their final years of veterinary school and into the next phase of their careers.
High Plains Veterinary Medical Association
Merck Animal Health Student Innovation Award
- This award is designed to recognize graduating seniors at each veterinary school accredited through the American Veterinary Medical Association in the U.S. and Canada. Awards are given to students in good academic standing who have been recognized by their veterinary medical program faculty for innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative forward-thinking in the development of a project or product that inspires others within the veterinary profession. If you are a student who is interested in being nominated, please consult your program advisor.
Scholarships for American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Members
- The Foundation for the Horse awards a variety of annual scholarships for equine veterinary students who are National AAEP Student members. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to equine veterinary medicine.There are 11 scholarship opportunities on one application.
Aurora Pharmaceutical DVM Student Scholarship
- Selection will be based on a combination of academic achievement, related work experience, community and university involvement, goals, essay and letters of reference. All application materials will be scored by a committee of Aurora team members.
Texas Farm Bureau Rural Veterinary Scholarship
- Applicants must be a second- or third-year veterinarian student at Texas A&M University or Texas Tech University with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The applicant must also plan to enter a rural and/or food animal practice in Texas after graduation.
AVMF Embrace Pet Insurance
- AVMF is excited to announce our partnership with Embrace Pet Insurance to offer a new opportunity to veterinary students. Embrace aims to expand its mission of aiding homeless pets in shelters by supporting aspiring veterinarians interested in shelter work, providing $5,000 scholarships to five 3rd or 4th-year veterinary students intending to work in shelter medicine upon graduation.

Smithcors Student Veterinary History Essay Contest
- The annual J. Fred Smithcors Student Veterinary History Essay Contest was established in 1991. It provides a unique opportunity for veterinary students to learn about the heritage of their new profession by researching and writing about a veterinary history topic of their choice.
AABP Amstutz Scholarship
- The AABP Foundation Amstutz Scholarship, AABPs premier scholarship award, is meant to identify and support superior veterinary students in their 2nd or 3rd year who demonstrate the character, knowledge, experience, motivation and potential to become outstanding bovine veterinarians in the United States and Canada.
AABP Hunter Lang Dairy Welfare Scholarship
- The purpose of the Hunter Lang Dairy Welfare Scholarship is to provide a one-time financial award of $2000 to a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student interested in dairy practice and animal welfare. The scholarship is administered by the AABP Foundation.
AABP Merck Animal Health Bovine Veterinary Student Recognition Award
- Provide nine (9) $10,000 awards to veterinary students in their 2nd or 3rd year who are interested in dairy and/or beef veterinary medicine.
NETBIO
AABP Edwin Robertson Memorial Scholarship
- This scholarship is provided to one veterinary student in their 2nd or 3rd year to help fund a theriogenology, embryo transfer or advanced reproductive techniques experience in the dairy industry.
HumaneVMA Compassionate Care Scholarship for Veterinary Students
- Our Compassionate Care Scholarships recognize veterinary students who not only demonstrate an interest in animal welfare, but also represent a commitment to equitable access and inclusion in veterinary medicine via service or lived experience.
