School of Veterinary Medicine

Scholarships at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine are designed to support access, affordability, and opportunity for our students. Through the generosity of our donors and partners, the School of Veterinary Medicine awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year, helping reduce financial barriers and allowing students to focus on their education, clinical training, and future careers.

Internal Scholarships

To be considered for an internal scholarship, students must complete the annual scholarship application.

For current DVM students, the application will open in January and close in March. Students will receive the application link directly from the Manager of Alumni and Scholarships.

For incoming DMV students, the scholarship application will open after students have received their R Number and TTU email address in April. The incoming student application will close in June.

Adams Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a 4th year student originally from New Mexico who plans to return to New Mexico to practice mixed animal medicine.

Arnold-Waddle Partners Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student with intentions of pursuing a large animal practice in a rural area. Preference is given to students with a farm/ranch background.

Barrett & Crofoot Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student with financial need.

Bickerstaff Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Fisher, Nolan, or Taylor.

Bill and Sharon Lipham SVM Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year who demonstrates academicexcellence with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Blonkvist Family Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

  • A full-year tuition scholarship for a student with high merit and financial need.

Bruce & Nannete Abrams Veterinary Education Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Kendall, Potter, or Randall.

Buckle Up for the Adventure with Drake and Betsy Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for graduating DVM students to be used by students to pursue SLAMO—Serve, Lead, Adventure, be on Mission, Outreach—after graduation.

Catherine Eckert Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student in good academic standing with financial need.

Chris Eckert Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student in good academic standing with financial need.

Dalton William Horn Memorial Scholarship Award

  • In honor of Dalton W. Horn, who was part of the inaugural class at the SVM, but tragically lost his life in a car accident. This scholarship was established so that future generations of students have the opportunity to know Dalton.
  • Scholarship for a student in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year that demonstrate perseverance and hard work, kindness, community-building, humility and being an unsung hero, and in good academic standing, are nominated by students, faculty, and staff.

David. L. Smith Family Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student in good academic standing with financial need.

Dickson-Allen Foundation Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student from Lavaca County, Texas. Second preference is given to students from Wharton or Gonzales counties.

Dr. Glenn Blodgett Memorial Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for 3rd or 4th year students who plan to pursue equine veterinary medicine. Preference is given to students with an equine background, students from a rural or regional area that plan to practice in a rural or regional area.

Ed Grist Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Scholarship for a student in good academic standing from Comal County, Texas.

El Paso Veterinary Medical Association Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a 4th year student with an interest in practicing in El Paso County. The student will be required to complete a clinical rotation in El Paso County.

Emma Barnsley Foundation Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

  • Scholarship for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Gary Shores Family Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student with financial need.

Gruner Family Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a 3rd year student that graduated high school and completed their undergraduate degree in Texas.

Guy Loneragan Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, Dimmit, Duval, Frio, Gold, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleburg, La Salle, Live Oak, Maverick, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Victoria, Webb, Willacy, Zapata, or Zavala. Preference will be given to students that served in the military.

Jane White and Joe Amerling Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student with financial need. Preference is given to a student from a New Mexico Native American reservation with plans to return there to practice. Second preference is given for those that plan to practice on a New Mexico reservation.

Jane White Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student with financial need.

John and Maggie Windham School of Veterinary Medicine Endowed Scholarship

  • A full-ride scholarship for students that graduated from a rural high school. Preference is given to students with a farming/ranching background.

Joy Foundation Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student focused on equine health.

Judy Calder Foundation Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student with financial need.

Kritser Foundation School of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Potter, Randall, Moore, Armstrong, or Carson.

Linda B. Grant Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a 3rd or 4th year student with high moral and ethical character with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Mark and Kathryn Cox Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student that graduated from a high school in El Paso or New Mexico.

Michael Doherty DVM – D Bar Ranch Veterinary Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Dallam or Hartley, or from one of the following New Mexico counties: Colfax, Union, or Harding.

Michael J. Joyner DVM Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student with financial need. Preference is given to students from Texas with intentions to pursue mixed animal practice.

Nguyen PhD Achievement Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for graduating PhD students that have successfully completed a One Health Science dissertation as well as at least two peer-reviewed publications as first author and 80 semester credit hours.

Old Grey Mare Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student that intends to practice in a rural or regional community

Parks Bell Ranch Veterinary Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student with a farm/ranch background.

Rodeo Austin Veterinary Internship Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a 4th year student from Texas with a large animal focus and GPA of 2.5 or higher. The student will be required to complete a rotation at Rodeo Austin.

San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. Veterinary Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a 4th year student from Texas with a large animal focus and GPA of 2.8 or higher. The student must have plans to practice in a rural or regional area. The student will be required to complete a rotation at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

School of Veterinary Medicine General Scholarship Fund

  • Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit.

Sigma Kappa School of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a student with a family member of a Sigma Kappa alumna, or who has an active memberof a Sigma Kappa chapter.

Silver Spur Ranches Scholarship

  • Scholarship for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

South Plains Veterinary Medical Association Veterinary Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Lubbock, Hockley, Hale, Lynn, Terry, Lamb, Floyd, Crosby, Garza, Bailey, Cochran, Yoakum, or Dawson.

Texas Association of Dairymen Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a 3rd or 4th year student with an interest in pursuing veterinary medicine in the dairy industry. Preference will be given to students with a dairy background.

Texas Equine Foundation Scholarship Endowment

  • Scholarship for a 3rd or 4th year student with interest in pursuing equine practice. The student should be a member of TEVA and SCAAEP. Preference will be given to students that have served as a junior or senior TEVA student liaison.

Thad York Scholarship

  • Scholarship for students of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

The Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation (Amarillo Area Foundation)

  • Scholarship for a student from one of the following Texas counties: Armstrong, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, Childress, Collingsworth, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Donley, Gray, Hall, Hansford, Hartley, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Moore, Ochiltree, Oldham, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, Swisher, or Wheeler.

Twanna M. Powell and Joyce Ann Marsh Scholarship

  • Scholarship for a student that graduated from a high school in Amarillo ISD. Preference is given to students from Palo Duro High School.

United Family School of Veterinarian Medicine Endowed Scholarship

  • Scholarship for 4th year students to support their travels during clinical year.

Veterinary Practice Ownership Scholarship

  • Scholarship for 2nd year students with serious intentions to pursue practice ownership within two years of graduation.

External Scholarships

In addition to TTU SVM internal scholarships, students are encouraged to apply for external scholarship opportunities offered by professional organizations, foundations, and industry partners.

605/806 Memorial Fund

  • The 605/806 Memorial Fund is proud to assist these future agricultural leaders as they pursue their dreams.

AABP Amstutz Scholarship

  • The AABP Foundation Amstutz Scholarship, AABP’s premier scholarship award, is meant to identify and support superior veterinary students who demonstrate the character, knowledge, experience, motivation and potential to become outstanding bovine veterinarians in the United States and Canada.

AABP Edwin Robertson Memorial Scholarship

  • This scholarship is provided to one veterinary student to help fund a theriogenology, embryo transfer or advanced reproductive techniques experience.

AABP Hunter Lang Dairy Welfare Scholarship 

  • The purpose of the Hunter Lang Dairy Welfare Scholarship is to provide a one-time financial award of $2000 to a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student interested in dairy practice and animal welfare. The scholarship is administered by the AABP Foundation.

AABP Merck Animal Health Bovine Veterinary Student Recognition Award

  • Provide nine (9) $10,000 awards to veterinary students who are interested in dairy and/or beef veterinary medicine.

AASVF-Angela Baysinger Memorial Scholarship

  • This scholarship is awarded annually to a student with a passion for production animal welfare who is currently working or studying in a field of animal welfare science. This individual will contribute to the body of animal welfare science with the goal to continue to expand our understanding of animal welfare and promote animal welfare education of veterinary students, veterinarians, and the public.

AASVF-Merck Veterinary Student Scholarship Support 

  • The AASVF-Merck Veterinary Student Scholarship Program seeks to identify and assist future swine veterinarians with their educational expenses. 

AKC Veterinary Outreach Scholarship

  • These scholarships aim to support those with backgrounds in AKC events and programs seeking to promote animal health and medicine.

ASPCA Veterinary Scholarship Program 

  • The ASPCA Veterinary Scholarship Program supports veterinary and veterinary technician students committed to building careers in animal welfare. Through financial support and sustained ASPCA engagement, the program strengthens the veterinary workforce at shelters and mission-driven organizations, expands access to care, and cultivates a community of professionals dedicated to improving animal lives

Aurora Pharmaceutical DVM Student Scholarship 

  • Selection will be based on a combination of academic achievement, related work experience, community and university involvement, goals, essay and letters of reference. All application materials will be scored by a committee of Aurora team members.

Auxiliary to the AVMA Legacy Endowed Scholarship

  • The AVMF is extremely proud to offer the Auxiliary to the AVMA Legacy Endowed Scholarship which was created in recognition of the AVMFs long standing relationship with the Auxiliary to the AVMA. Shortly after World War II, the Auxiliary started a student loan fund to assist with the hardships facing veterinary families due to injury or death from the war.

AVC Foundation - Merck Foundation Scholarship

  • The AVC Foundation has partnered with the Merck Foundation to provide two $10,000 scholarships for veterinary students who are planning to enter a career that emphasizes beef cattle production medicine. The scholarship is available for students from a U.S. or Canadian college of veterinary medicine accredited by the AVMA.

AVMA/AVMF Scholarship for Veterans

  • On June 3, 2016 the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps celebrated the centennial of President Woodrow Wilson’s signing of the National Defense Act of 1916, an act that strengthened the nation’s military in part through the creation of a Veterinary Corps within the U.S. Army. AVMA and AVMF established a special scholarship in honor of the 100th anniversary for military veterans pursuing an education in veterinary medicine.

AVMF Embrace Pet Insurance

  • AVMF is excited to announce our partnership with Embrace Pet Insurance to offer a new opportunity to veterinary students. Embrace aims to expand its mission of aiding homeless pets in shelters by supporting aspiring veterinarians interested in shelter work, providing $5,000 scholarships to five 3rd or 4th-year veterinary students intending to work in shelter medicine upon graduation.

Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program 

  • The Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program recognizes second-year veterinary students from underserved groups who have shown an interest in and affinity for growing leadership capabilities. Individuals selected for the program will receive financial assistance as well as resources to support them through their final years of veterinary school and into the next phase of their careers. 

Dechra Veterinary Products Veterinary Scholarship

  • The AVMF and Dechra Veterinary Products are offering fifteen $2500 dollar scholarships to students interested in equine sports medicine, internal medicine, or dermatology.

Dr. Gregory D. Bossart Memorial One Health Scholarship 

  • A $5,000 USD Dr. Gregory D. Bossart Memorial One Health Scholarship is available to a graduate student doing research in wildlife biology, epidemiology, veterinary, medical, public health, basic or social sciences or other program focusing on the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment using a One Health framework. 

Durvet Animal Health Future Food Animal Veterinarian Scholarship

  • Large animal veterinarians are vital to a safe food supply in the U.S., and they are great contributors to the economic prosperity of rural communities. Durvet is looking to provide $1,000 scholarships to veterinary students that intend to work in a food animal practice upon graduation. Applicants with intentions of working in mixed animal practice in rural communities will also be considered.

High Plains Veterinary Medical Association

  • Applicants are evaluated holistically based on academic performance, leadership, experience, essays, and letters of recommendation.

HumaneVMA Compassionate Care Scholarship for Veterinary Students

  • Our Compassionate Care Scholarships recognize veterinary students who not only demonstrate an interest in animal welfare but also represent a commitment to equitable access and inclusion in veterinary medicine via service or lived experience.  This is the third year that HumaneVMA has awarded five $10,000 scholarships to veterinary students who use the little free time they have outside studies to give back to the community and support others. 

Jim Steere Memorial Veterinary Student Scholarship

  • The Ride & Tie Association announces our 2026 Jim Steere Memorial Veterinary Student Scholarship.  Dr. Steere was the first Ride & Tie head veterinarian.

Margaret A. Haines Telephony Scholarship

  • Studies focus on equine medicine and or surgery, and has a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Recipient must pursue an equine-focused veterinary practice. Applicant must be enrolled as a third year veterinary school student when applying. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to the student's last year of the veterinary program.

Merck Animal Health Diversity Leadership Scholarship 

  • The Merck Diversity Leadership Scholarship will recognize veterinary students who have demonstrated a record of contributing to enhancing diversity and inclusion through course projects, co-curricular activities, outreach, domestic and community engagement, research, and/or developed an early reputation for influencing others to be inclusive. These scholarships will honor the individuals who have been consistent champions of addressing inequities and underrepresentation in the veterinary profession; have advocated for social justice; and, who have advanced valuing diversity and inclusion at US AAVMC Member Institutions.

Merck Animal Health Scholarship

  • Merck Animal Health and the AVMF are dedicated to preserving and improving the health and well-being of animals as well as honoring exceptional veterinary students. Merck Animal Health is proud to show its dedication to veterinary students by providing $5000 scholarships to second and third year veterinary students attending accredited veterinary schools in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Merck Animal Health Student Innovation Award 

  • This award is designed to recognize graduating seniors at each veterinary school accredited through the American Veterinary Medical Association in the U.S. and Canada. Awards are given to students in good academic standing who have been recognized by their veterinary medical program faculty for innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative forward-thinking in the development of a project or product that inspires others within the veterinary profession. If you are a student who is interested in being nominated, please consult your program advisor.

National DHIA Scholarship for Veterinary Students 

  • Applicants must be students enrolled in a college of veterinary medicine in the United States, which is accredited by the AVMA Council on Education. Applicants must be in their third or fourth year of the program, and must have declared a track or emphasis area.

Patricia M. Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship

  • The Patricia M. Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship also recognizes veterinary students who have demonstrated exemplary promise as future leaders and have made significant contributions to enhancing diversity and inclusion in academic veterinary medicine. The awardee of the Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship will only be selected from the Merck Animal Health Diversity Scholarship nominations pool.

Scholarships for American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Members

  • The Foundation for the Horse awards a variety of annual scholarships for equine veterinary students who are National AAEP Student members. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to equine veterinary medicine.

Smithcors Student Veterinary History Essay Contest 

  • The annual  J. Fred Smithcors Student Veterinary History Essay Contest was established in 1991. It provides a unique opportunity for veterinary students to learn about the heritage of their new profession by researching and writing about a veterinary history topic of their choice.  

TCFA Graduate Student and Veterinary Medicine Student Scholarship

  • Qualified graduate students and veterinary medicine students that have a demonstrated interest and desire to pursue employment in production or research within the cattle feeding industry.

Teddy Sarna Veterinary Medicine Scholarship 

  • In loving memory of our beloved “Angel with a Tail”, we would like to offer financial help through the Teddy Sarna scholarship to those who have chosen this field to become a future veterinarian who will treat other people’s furry children with loving care.

Texas Farm Bureau Rural Veterinary Scholarship

  • Applicants must be a second- or third-year veterinarian student at Texas A&M University or Texas Tech University with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The applicant must also plan to enter a rural and/or food animal practice in Texas after graduation.

The Zoetis Foundation/AAVMC Veterinary Student Scholarship

  • The Zoetis Foundation/AAVMC Veterinary Student Scholarship was developed to offset educational expenses related to attaining a veterinary education. The program focuses on addressing the issue of student debt which may greatly impact the future of the veterinary profession. More than 200 scholarships worth $7,000 will be awarded to students at Full US & Caribbean AAVMC member institutions. 

Trans Ova Genetics

  • Are you a livestock – enthusiast planning on attending college? Consider applying for a Trans Ova Genetics Youth Scholarship. We know it is not easy to finance a college education, and we know many students can use help achieving their educational goals. Our scholarship program is designed to encourage youth involved in the livestock industry to make a commitment to higher education and agriculture. 

TVMF Gerome Scholarship

  • TVMF’s Dr. Eve Gerome Memorial Scholarship shall support deserving students from rural counties or areas at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (TAMU-CVM) and Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine (TTU-SVM).

TVMF Philanthropy Scholarship 

  • TVMF’s Philanthropy Scholarship recognizes a second or third-year student at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (TAMU-CVM) and a second or third-year student at Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine (TTU-SVM) who have been engaged in philanthropic activities and have demonstrated leadership by supporting or starting a charitable program.  

VIN Foundation Mike Dunn, DVM Veterinary Student Scholarship  

  • This scholarship is restricted to veterinary students who are committed to practicing companion animal veterinary medicine.
