Golf Course

Lubbock's temperate climate makes its more than 75 parks popular destinations year round.

Outdoor sports are a big part of life in Lubbock for many people. Thousands of adults and children take part in the organized sporting activities each year. The City of Lubbock's Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of youth and adult sports leagues. The department also operates two skate parks, a BMX track, two disc golf courses, an equestrian trail, bird blinds and fishing docks.

If golf is your game, there are two country clubs, a number of public golf courses and Texas Tech offers the superb Rawls Golf Course, which has received numerous national honors, including being ranked the number three campus course in the country by Golfweek magazine for 2013.

Texas Tech's Recreational Center offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Faculty, staff and their families are welcome to join the center. From fitness and wellness classes, equipment, and the outdoor pool and lazy river, to youth activities, the Rec offers something for everyone in the family.

Water sports are available at Buffalo Springs Lake, just west of the city, and at Lake Alan Henry, about 45 miles south of Lubbock.

If you're a big-time college sports fan, the Texas Tech Red Raiders play in the powerful Big XII Conference. Lubbock Christian University, South Plains College and the area's high schools also offer a full slate of sporting events.

There are a number of youth and adult courses offered through the city's Parks and Recreation Department and Texas Tech's Osher Lifelong Learning Center.
