Why Texas Tech?

I chose Texas Tech because of the strength of the social work program, the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and school pride.

Tech Testimony

When I first visited Tech's campus after my sophomore year of high school, I instantly knew this was the only school I wanted to attend. The campus was beautiful, students and faculty were friendly and enthusiastic, and I loved the surrounding community. When I arrived at Tech as a freshman, I was nervous about going to such a large school, but I soon found out how easy it is to make friends and get involved around campus. Lubbock, although six hours away from my hometown, has truly become a second home for me.

Most Memorable Experience

My most memorable experiences at Tech have been getting to work closely with Women's Protective Services here in Lubbock. Through my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, I have gotten the opportunity to volunteer at the Women's Shelter and help raise $30,000 in our last fundraiser alone for the Lubbock shelter.

Opportunities

Through my major, I have been able to become a part of the Social Work Student Organization, which has provided me with many volunteer opportunities around Lubbock. We are constantly updated with new opportunities for programs abroad, volunteer trips, and projects within the Lubbock community.

Words of Wisdom

While it is important to have fun and enjoy yourself, which should come naturally in college! Make sure to keep up with assignments and be conscientious about learning and grades. It can be easy to lose track of assignments and become unorganized, and it is especially important since exams and assignments carry more weight than they do in high school.
