A year ago, our Kimi left us, but her memory vividly remains with us. To honor her, and her indefatigable work on behalf of graduate students, the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures would like to award a scholarship in her name. With this, we will enable future graduate students to receive support through a truly fitting way to honor her memory, dedication and passion for educating and mentoring graduate students.

Please consider a gift in memory of Dr. Kimi Nakatsukasa to support graduate student scholarships. All donations, no matter the size, will contribute to educating future generations of students and ensure her legacy endures at Texas Tech.

Raider Welcome CMLL Passport Party 2020

recruit2

The CMLL Language Ambassadors hosted the Passport Party on August 20th as an official Raider Welcome event. This year was different due to COVID-19. It took place outside, just west of the CMLL building. Though attendance was lower this year, it was still a success. At least twenty students received brochures and advising for American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Classics, German, French, and Spanish. Overall, it was pleasant to host the event outside in the fresh air and shade. Most notable was the sense of community and reunion after a long summer of social distancing.

M&M Fair – Majors & Minors

Thursday October 22, the annual Majors and Minors fair took place only virtually via Zoom. Recruiters, Ambassadors hosted the Arts & Sciences room on behalf of all of the programs in the college. Students interested in foreign language majors and minors were presented general program information and then guided to CMLL advisors for Q&A.

Spring 2021 Advisors Information Session

recruit3

On October 14, Texas Tech advisors gathered for a virtual information session presenting CMLL course offerings for Spring 2021 and important news and updates in the department. Faculty pre-recorded one-minute video presentations highlighting spring picks in their respective programs. The new Global Readiness Certificate was unveiled and introduced. Following the presentations, a Q&A with CMLL advisors took place. This thirty-minute virtual information session equipped advisors with the most current information during the advising season prior to advance registration in November. As an incentive to attend, a beautiful gift basket was awarded to one of the attendees whose name was drawn.
