The McGrath Study Abroad Success Scholarship & The Mitchell H. and Nieves G. Nitta Scholarship for Spain

The Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures (CMLL) is proud to offer two important scholarships to make study abroad in Seville more financially available:

  • The McGrath Study Abroad Success Scholarship (two annual awards of $5,000 each)
  •  The Mitchell H. and Nieves G. Nitta Scholarship for Spain (one scholarship per year awarded at $1,500)

These two scholarships will support our students seeking to experience study abroad in Seville, Spain. Studying abroad in Seville provides a rich opportunity to develop language proficiency, gain international experience, and cultivate professional skills in an immersive, real-world context. 

In addition to applying to the McGrath Study Abroad Success Scholarship and The Mitchell H. and Nieves G. Nitta Scholarship for Spain, students must apply to the CMLL Study Abroad Scholarship and the funding provided by the TTU Study Abroad Office by the appropriate deadline. Please be aware of the different application deadlines. Our goal is to select and notify awardees of their scholarships in advance of the TTU study abroad program commitment deadlines. 

Criteria 

  • Eligible students must be applying to the Spanish study abroad program in Seville.  
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to Spanish Majors/Minors
  • Preference given to students demonstrating financial need

Application Deadlines 
Summer 2024  

Applications Due:            Feb. 9, 2024
Awards Announced:        Feb. 23, 2024
Decision Deadline:          March 1, 2024

Students can expect similar deadlines in future application cycles but should expect some variation. No late submissions will be considered. 

Application Process 

1. Student selects a study abroad program and applies for it by the appropriate deadline. 

2. Student applies for The McGrath Study Abroad Success Scholarship &  The Mitchell H. and Nieves G. Nitta Scholarship for Spain with the same form. 

3. Scholarship applications are screened for minimum requirements by the CMLL Director of Scholarships. 

4. Applications are forwarded to the Spanish program for review. 

5. Program selects awardees and determines award amounts. 

6. Awardees are notified by the CMLL Scholarship Director. 

7. Awardees must declare their decision to accept or decline the award by the decision deadline.  

8. The scholarship will be deposited into the awardee's Student Business Services account at the beginning of the semester in which they begin the study abroad program. If applicable, all outstanding tuition and fees will be deducted from your scholarship money upfront. The remainder of the funds will be directly deposited into your bank account should you have set up direct deposit with Student Business Services. Award Conditions  

 Scholarship awards are contingent upon enrollment and participation in the Spanish study abroad program at the TTU Center in Seville. If a student receives and accepts an award but does not ultimately study abroad, their award will be withdrawn. Participation in the study abroad program will be verified with the Study Abroad office. • If a student is not accepted to the Spanish study abroad program in Seville and/or decides to enroll in a different study abroad program, the student must notify the CMLL Scholarship Director immediately. 
 

• Awardees must commit to completing all study abroad follow-up activities as specified in the award letter. Such activities may include, for example, the creation of several videos in response to reflection prompts during and after the study abroad experience.
