Red Raider Alumnus Elected President of the Board of Trustees for the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineering

Michael Foss is living the Texas Tech motto "From Here It's Possible" as he is the first Red Raider to become President of the board of trustees (BOT) for the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineering (IISE) www.iienet2.org serving a three year term from 2015-2018. IISE is a nonprofit organization that provides knowledge, training, networking opportunities and recognition to enhance the skills and effectiveness of the industrial and systems engineering profession and those individuals involved with improving quality and productivity. Michael is a Sr. Member of IISE and has served IISE for many years. Before becoming President, he recently served on the BOT as chief financial officer and Sr. Vice president of Regional Operations. Michael serves on the IISE Industry Advisory Board and has also served on multiple local professional chapter boards including Dallas, Texas; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Columbus, Ohio; and, Fort Worth, Texas. Michael's first service to IISE was while as a student in IE serving the student IISE chapter.

Foss

Michael holds a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University and has completed 18 hours toward his MS degree in Industrial Engineering. He also holds his Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of Villanova. Michael is the past Chairman of the Edward E. Whitaker Jr. College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board for the industrial engineering department at Texas Tech University where he served for six years. Michael was also recently inducted to the Texas Tech University Industrial Engineering Academy, a lifetime appointment for significant career accomplishments in the field of Industrial Engineering and is now serving as Chairman for the Academy. Michael was asked by IISE before being elected, how will you make things better for industrial and system engineers through your board of trustees position? His responded, "It is a great honor to be nominated as a candidate for President. I have enjoyed serving IISE in leadership roles since college to now as SVP Regional Operations on the board of trustees. The rewards have always outweighed the investment. IISE provides industrial engineers and business leaders a tremendous opportunity for continued education, professional development and networking. I offer my passion for continuous improvement, optimization, young professional membership growth and bringing visibility to the tremendous value industrial engineers bring to today's ever evolving business environment." Michael currently works for Amazon optimizing logistics, compliance and controls in operations from the fulfillment center to the customer. Michael is passionate about leadership, motivation and continuous improvement. He is an avid learner from thought leaders in business and football where he played quarterback into college.
