Thesis-Dissertation Document Formatting Guidelines

Please check the approved style guide list or your department to determine which style guide you are supposed to use for formatting and citation.

Specifications in the following guide supercede style guide specifications.

Graduate School Formatting Manual

For formatting issues not covered by your approved guide or the Graduate School manual, please consult Kate L. Turabian's A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations. 7th ed. Chicago and London: University of Chicago Press, 2007.

It is NOT ACCEPTABLE to submit for review theses or dissertations that follow no official guidelines for citation format. Documents without properly formatted citations will not be approved by the Graduate School. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the document is in compliance with the highest standards of professional presentation in his/her field.
