In 2010 Ajamu Loving became the first African American to earn a PhD in Personal Financial Planning from a CFP board registered program. As the owner of Loving Consulting LLC, Dr. Loving is a highly sought after public speaker who has delivered well over 400 corporate and institutional presentations on themes of financial planning practice management, the business value of diverse clientele, intergenerational financial planning, and technology in financial planning.
Dr. Loving is the Founder of Finamantic, a mobile application designed to help couples craft and execute a shared financial vision for their future. He is a co-founder and principal of the Trailblazer Advisory Group (TAG) which specializes in consulting real estate investors and municipalities to create catalytic economic development real estate projects in the North Texas region. He has authored Dr. Loving's Financial Workbook for Couples and is currently finishing his manuscript for Financial Jiu Jitsu: Harnessing the Power of Economic Self-Defense for Financial Freedom.
Dr. Ajamu Loving serves as Associate Professor of Finance at The University of North Texas at Dallas. He is responsible for teaching finance courses in the fields of Finance as well as Financial Planning.
Prior to his appointment at the University of North Texas at Dallas, Dr. Loving served as the Director of Academic Partnerships at the American College of Financial Services. His responsibilities included creating and coordinating relationships between Colleges and Universities and The American College to increase the availability of financial services education in academia. Prior to his appointment at The American College, Dr. Loving was Assistant Professor of Finance at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Dr. Loving has published articles in The Review of Black Political Economy, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, Financial Planning Review, Journal of Housing and The Built Environment, and GSTF Business Review. His research focuses primarily on wealth building in minority populations.
Before academia Dr. Loving was a financial consultant at LaSalle Bank (now Bank of America) in Chicago IL. Dr. Loving earned his Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University where he earned the distinction of becoming the first African American Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning and was an AT&T Chancellor's fellow. Before that he earned a B.A. from Morehouse College, cum laude, where he majored in Economics and minored in Mathematics. Dr. Loving is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional.
