As an Assistant Director in Operations, Wayne Lucas conducted detailed research to identify energy losses from the Deaerating Feed Tank. He developed and managed a project to complete an overhaul of the system with minimum equipment down time. The overall result of this project was a 3% increase in efficiency saving over $11,000 monthly in energy and chemical consumption. In addition, he ensures equipment is only replaced when necessary and cost effective. By conducting detailed research he implements the most beneficial solution to the University; this could mean a repair, or replacement with more efficient equipment with a longer life cycle. One example is repairing the number 2 chiller steam surface condenser water boxes, which saved the University $30,000. Wayne leads by example and strives to give his very best in all aspects of his job.
