Instead of settling for “the way it has always been done,” Michael Sonberg continually looks for improvement in processes. For example, he wrote standard operating procedures for Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) and Oil System Maintenance. Foreign Material Exclusion practices help to eliminate costly damage and potential injuries, keeping foreign material out of critical plant systems by systematic processes of proper inspection, containment, isolation and purging of systems. Since he started working in Operations, employee morale and teamwork has risen to a new level. With his excellent communication, mixed with his professional demeanor, he built positive relationships with managers, peers and subordinates which enhanced the productivity and teamwork throughout the entire department. In the short time he has been employed with Texas Tech University, he has become a strong asset and leader to the Utilities Department and Operations Division.
