In a time when the university is focused on support services for students to boost retention, Joshua Sills came to the university without any academic affairs or support services experience and quickly became the most dedicated student success coach on campus. Joshua outlined a success coaching process that an entire division has adopted which includes analyzing the best way to support students through concentrated coaching practices and documenting these interactions with students in a way that promotes effective data mining. Joshua tested the process with the help of the other success coaches and continued to refine it as students came in for coaching. Joshua is enthusiastic in its implementation and was the first member of the team to receive his coaching certification. The end result is a coaching program that is reflective, student-centric, and based on the numbers of coaching students that have completed the process, very effective. Joshua is making a significant impact on students achieving success at Texas Tech.
