Luke oversees housing for the Summer Camps and Conferences. He assumed these responsibilities during a time of record low camp and conference attendance due to Covid restrictions. Since then, Luke has created a remarkable turnaround, coordinating 13,000 guests to stay in the residence halls during the summer of 2022, and generating of a revenue of over $550,000 that same summer. This summer that number grew even higher, with 15,000 guests and a revenue of $1.2 million. This creates a considerable impact for Texas Tech University as these camps and conferences generate revenue beyond just University Student Housing and pose an excellent recruitment opportunity for future Red Raiders. Luke's strong leadership, dedication to the university, ability to execute his responsibilities efficiently and effectively, and passion for creating positive experiences for students and guests led to a promotion in September of 2022. With his promotion, Luke has taken on more responsibilities, including Student Employment Recruitment and Training operations within University Student Housing. Each year, the department hires approximately 200 students and the work to recruit and train these students is extensive. When Luke took over Student Staff Recruitment and Training, there had been staff turnover in within the Residence Life area. With a team of almost entirely new Residence Life Coordinators, Luke saw a need to focus on thoroughly training these new full-time staff members on Residence Life recruitment processes. He worked diligently to do so and created new processes and efficiencies to assist with the navigation of hiring such a large number of student employees. Luke's significant contributions to Texas Tech have made a lasting impression within the department, and we look forward to the ways he will continue to impact the staff and students around him.
