Distinguished Staff Awards 2023: Nataly Mendoza University Student HousingNataly Mendoza
Section Supervisor
University Student Housing

From Nataly's first day at University Student Housing two years ago, she has worked diligently to establish a high standard of internal and external customer service that has resonated throughout the department. Nataly strives to uphold the departmental service model of “ empowering students through innovation, service, and civility.” As one of the department's most front-facing employees, she is truly one of the first faces that our students and parents see. This is most notable when Nataly works during Red Raider Orientation or travels to Raider Roadshows across Texas which provides valuable opportunities to recruit students to Texas Tech. Along with recruitment responsibilities where she works weekends and travels to different cities, Nataly is responsible for the Student Disabilities Services and Emotional Support Animal accommodation requests within the department. Nataly has assisted with 61 Emotional Support Animal cases and 52 room accommodation requests for students. These cases require that federal, state, and institutional policies are followed, and Nataly follows those policies with attention to detail and care. Nataly communicates with the student, the in-hall staff, and the facilities staff to ensure proper steps are followed. This accommodation process can be stressful for students, but Nataly approaches each case with compassion and empathy, ensuring that the needs of these students are met allowing them to thrive while living on campus. Nataly has proven to be an employee who goes above and beyond to achieve positive change and growth for our students, staff, and the Lubbock community.
