Leave
Texas Tech University offers several types of leave for eligible employees. Leave eligibility and approval will vary depending on the circumstances of leave.
Family and Medical Leave
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees to take unpaid job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons. Texas Tech University requires eligible employees to complete all necessary paperwork (including FMLA applications and certification forms) for any absence from work due to a qualifying reason under the FMLA. Employees who take Family and Medical Leave (FML) must use any sick and vacation leave accruals concurrently with the FML. Once all eligible accrued leave hours have been exhausted, the employee may enter into leave without pay. More...
Parental Leave
Parental leave is for employees who are not eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for:
- The birth of a child, or
- The adoption or foster care placement of a child younger than 3 years of age.
Employees eligible for Parental Leave are entitled up to 12 weeks of leave, and are required to use any eligible sick leave and vacation leave while on Parental Leave. Once all accrued leave hours have been exhausted, the employee will enter into leave without pay.
Employees eligible for Parental Leave must submit the Application for Parental Leave as well as the following documentation:
