Vu Thai Luan, Ph.D. Associate Professor

Vu Thai Luan joined Texas Tech University in Fall 2024 as an Associate Professor. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, in 2014. Earlier, he earned both his B.S. in Mathematics and M.Sc. in Computational Mathematics from Vietnam. From 2014 to 2024, he held positions as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California, Merced, and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and later as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Mississippi State University. His research interests are in Computational and Applied Mathematics, primarily in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing. Much of his work centers on designing, analyzing, and implementing fast, robust, and accurate numerical methods for the time integration of PDEs, multiphysics and multirate problems arising in engineering and the natural sciences. Currently, he is developing advanced numerical techniques with applications in meteorology, numerical weather prediction, computational fluid dynamics, computational biology, and visual computing (real-time simulation of complex systems).
