Mathematical Discovery Day 2026
Mathematical Discovery Day
Celebrate and foster mathematical curiosity
Please join us for Mathematical Discovery Day on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. This event is open to high school students (9th–12th grade) who want to learn more about mathematics.
We welcome emerging scientists and mathematicians who are still developing — or have not yet discovered — an interest in STEM. Lunch is provided. Activities include:
- Mini-lessons led by TTU faculty
- Team challenge mentored by TTU graduate students
- Panel presentation on STEM careers
- Small-group discussions with TTU undergraduates
- Program and major information tables
If you would like to bring your class, please register here. Attendance may be limited by available space.
When selecting participants, please consider students with emerging interest in mathematics or those who may believe math “isnt for them.” Our goal is to foster growth for a broad group of students, regardless of background preparation.
Homeschool students are welcome with a chaperone present for the duration of the event.
A Bit of History
Mathematical Discovery Day continues the tradition of Texas Techs Emmy Noether Days, a program founded by Dr. Mara Neusel in 2002 and held annually. Its mission has always been to introduce young students to the excitement and possibilities of mathematics.
The program was inspired by Sonia Kovalevsky Days, an outreach initiative organized by the Association for Women in Mathematics. Like those events, Emmy Noether Days were designed to bring middle school and high school students to campus to participate in mathematical workshops, collaborative problem-solving, and conversations about education and careers in fields that use mathematics.
The goal of the program is to provide a welcoming environment where students can explore mathematics, meet mathematicians, and learn about pathways into STEM fields.
You can view archived websites from past events: 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022.
An article about Emmy Noether Day was published in the newsletters of the Association for Women in Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America in 2004.
