Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA)

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics considers all applicants to our master’s and doctoral programs for Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). These positions provide valuable professional experience while supporting students throughout their graduate studies.

Funding and Benefits

Graduate Teaching Assistants receive a monthly stipend along with a remission of most tuition and fees. All supported students are responsible for a portion of tuition each semester. Stipends begin at $2,000 per month, with opportunities for increases as students complete preliminary and qualifying examination milestones.

Length of Support

Students who remain in good academic standing continue to receive funding for the standard duration of their program:

  • Master’s students: up to 2 years of support
  • Doctoral students: up to 5 years of support

A sixth year of support for Ph.D. students may be requested, though approval is not guaranteed.

Summer Support

Additional funding opportunities are typically available during the summer terms and are awarded based on departmental needs and student qualifications.

Terms for Continued Department Support

This Continued Support Form must be completed annually for students to maintain eligibility for continued departmental support.
