Application Process

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a Master of Arts Degree in Mathematics, Master of Science Degrees in both Mathematics and Statistics, a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Mathematics, and a Graduate Certificate in Mathematics.

In order to apply, students should apply directly to the Graduate School for admission to Texas Tech University as a graduate student. Briefly, for all programs in Mathematics and Statistics, this includes submission of a completed application form, non-refundable application fee, and official transcripts for all previous college-level study. In addition, the M.S. and Ph.D. programs require three letters of reference and GRE scores. International students must also submit official TOEFL scores and a bank statement that indicates sufficient funds to cover the student's education and living expenses. Submit these application materials directly to the Graduate School. In addition, the department recommends that unofficial copies of all application materials be sent directly to the Graduate Advisor. See the Graduate School web site for the most up-to-date instructions.

The department accepts applications for Fall admissions in the Certificate, M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. programs. We also accept applications for Summer admissions in the Graduate Certificate and M.A. programs.

Applicants for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs will be considered for graduate teaching assistantships. Support is not guaranteed, but we typically have a number of available positions each year. For full consideration, the department recommends that all application materials be completed by December 15th for Fall admissions. If you have any questions, contact the Graduate Advisor.
