Mathematics Minor
A minor in mathematics provides students with strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills that complement a wide range of majors across the sciences, engineering, business, economics, and the liberal arts.
Students pursuing a mathematics minor develop the ability to think logically, work with abstract concepts, analyze data, and apply mathematical reasoning to real-world problems. These skills are highly valued in technical careers, graduate and professional programs, and fields that rely on data-driven decision-making.
The mathematics minor is flexible by design, allowing students to tailor their coursework to their academic interests and career goals while gaining a solid foundation in core mathematical concepts.
Minors for Math Majors
Mathematics majors may complement their degree with a minor that aligns with their academic and career goals.
Candidates for the B.A. degree can choose a minor subject in addition to the mathematics requirements and must be approved by the minor department.
A minor consists of a required minimum of 18 semester hours, six of which must be advanced.
Candidates for the B.S. degree must choose their minor from the following:

A minor must include 18 semester hours, 6 of which must be advanced. In particular,
an engineering minor must consist of 18 semester hours in only one department.
Courses counted for the minor must be approved by the minor department.

MATH 3342 and MATH 4342 cannot both be counted toward a Math Minor.
A minimum of 3 hours of junior-senior courses must be taken in residence at Texas Tech University.

Students are encouraged to meet regularly with an undergraduate advisor to plan coursework and ensure timely progress toward graduation.
