Why Texas Tech
Alan came to Texas Tech under the recommendation of his M.S. advisor. During his time in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, he pursued advanced research while also gaining broad experience in teaching, presenting, publishing, and academic service.
Research in Plain Language
Alans research is in low-dimensional topology, an area of pure mathematics that studies spaces and shapes in dimensions such as two, three, and four. His work at Texas Tech focused on Chern-Simons theory in Lens Spaces as a first step toward applying his research more broadly to all 3-manifolds.
Graduate Experience
Beyond his research, Alan built a wide range of academic and professional experience at Texas Tech. He worked on a research grant, taught numerous undergraduate mathematics courses, published papers, and presented his work at an AMS special session.
