Biography

Leif Ellingson joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech University as an assistant professor in 2011. He was promoted to associate professor in 2017 and professor in 2024, and he has served as Associate Chair for Graduate Studies since 2024. He earned his Ph.D. in statistics from Florida State University in 2011, following an M.S. in statistics from Florida State in 2009 and a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Maryland in 2007.


His research focuses on developing statistical methodology for non-Euclidean data and adapting geometric methods for multivariate data. His interests include statistics on manifolds, object data analysis, multivariate and functional data analysis, symmetric positive-definite matrix data analysis, directional data analysis, statistical shape analysis, nonparametric inference and asymptotic theory, probability distributions on non-Euclidean spaces, and statistical applications in structural biology and dynamical systems.


He is the coauthor of Nonparametric Statistics on Manifolds and Their Applications to Object Data Analysis and, more recently, the tenth edition of Probability and Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences.
