AVP Sought for Academic and Career Advising

The Office of the Provost seeks applications for an Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) for Academic and Career Advising. The AVP for Academic and Career Advising will formally report to the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation and Student Success and will provide leadership and support regarding university initiatives and policies that contribute to the academic success of students. With the goal of advancing strategies in the areas of academic and career advising, including deployment and use of data analytics, process reengineering, and cross-institutional partnerships, the AVP should offer a deep focus on understanding and enhancing student experiences at Texas Tech.

Areas of responsibility will include leadership for the University Career Center, University Advising, Pre-Professional Health Explore Advising and Career Development, and eXplore Advising. Other responsibilities include fostering a leadership community where best practices are shared across the campus, assessing advisor retention and satisfaction, deploying a professional development plan for all TTU academic and career advisors, and creating an onboarding process for new professional advisors and faculty advisors joining the advising community across campus.

Applicants should have a strong interest in innovation in higher education, positive forward-looking attitude, high level of creativity and problem-solving ability, and the capacity to engage and support academic and career advisors, faculty, and staff.

The AVP should continue to stay abreast of developments in the advising fields and research related to student success.

Eligibility and Applications

Full-time staff, tenured faculty, and senior faculty in non-tenure positions will be considered for the AVP position. Applicants should have a strong record of student engagement, academic and/or career advising, and a strong understanding of the inner workings of TTU. 

Administrative experience at the department level or higher involving faculty, staff, and/or student advancement is important, as is a positive reputation for teamwork, consensus building, and collegiality will be critical to success.
