Motion Control Fibronaire

The Fibronaire and Fiberweigh instruments were developed by Motion Control in Dallas, Texas. The Fiberweigh instrument is a sensitive scale used to weigh a sample of cotton fiber for micronaire testing. Once a sample of 50 grains is obtained with the Fiberweigh, the sample is placed in the glass chamber at the base of the Fibronaire instrument. The Fibronaire plunger compresses the sample to a fixed volume and a laminar flow of air passes through the lint. The airflow measurement is used to evaluate the sample micronaire. Cotton fiber physical properties impacting the flow of air through the sample, such as fiber maturity and fiber fineness, impact the micronaire measurement. Thus, micronaire is a function of both cotton fiber fineness and fiber maturity. The success of the Fibronaire instrument in providing an objective measure of fiber quality for marketing led to the development of modern High Volume Instruments (HVI). The Micronaire chamber on modern HVI is based on the same measurement principle.
