Bishwoyog Bhattarai and Sharandeep Singh Chahal — graduate students in the Plant & Soil Science department — were each selected by the Davis College Research and Graduate Programs Committee to receive 2022-2023 James A. “Buddy” Davidson Graduate Research Fellowships.
For Bhattarai, the fellowship will support his doctoral research in Dr. Haydee Laza's Crop Physiology Lab. His focus is to develop a deeper understanding of the peanut and barrel clover's physiological adaptations to a water-limited environment.
Singh Chahal's research focuses on outlining the rare West Gulf Coastal Plain Forested Seep communities and populations of Bartonia paniculata ssp. texana in Texas. His aim is to enrich the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department database and help to initiate or modify biodiversity conservational practices.
The James A. “Buddy” Davidson Graduate Research Fellowship was established in 2009 by the James A. “Buddy” Davidson Foundation. The $2000 fellowship is awarded to graduate students conducting research in one of several programs focused on water conservation.
