Russ Plowman

Background

Russ Plowman received his B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture in 1983 and his M.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture in 1985 both from Texas Tech University. Russ joined the Texas Tech University Department of Plant and Soil Science full time in the fall of 2013 as an Instructor of Horticulture. He is currently working on his PhD in Horticulture.

Research Interests

Floral Design is of special interest to Russ. In 2017 Floral Design became a core curriculum creative arts class and grew from 20 students a year to 160 students a year with projections of 800 per year by 2020. Russ's research responsibilities at Texas Tech are focused on selection and enhancement of native plant species, horticultural plant trial selections and the development of lavender as a cropping alternative for the Texas High Plains.

Teaching

Russ Plowman's teaching responsibilities are in horticulture and floral design. He has taught / is currently teaching the following courses: Principles of Horticulture, Arboriculture, Floral Design and Garden Center and Nursery Management.
