Background
Dr. Simpson has a bachelor's degree in environmental soil science and her master's degree in plant and soil science are from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Her doctorate in horticulture is from Texas A&M-College Station. She is a member of the American Society for Horticultural Sciences, Soil Science Society of America, International Society for Horticultural Sciences, Alpha Chi Honor Society, and the American Society for Agronomy.
Prior to joining the Tech faculty, Simpson served as an assistant professor and research scientist at the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Citrus Center in Weslaco, Texas. She also worked as an instructor of horticulture at Texas A&M-College Station, and an instructor of plant and soil science at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Research Interests
Dr. Simpsons research interests include urban horticulture, controlled environment system research, vertical greenhouse production, water conservation, abiotic stress physiology, ornamental horticulture and plant-soil-water relationships.
One of her primary goals at Tech is to develop a grant-funded research program focusing on problems in urban systems and controlled environment horticulture.
