Local Food and Wine Production Systems - Graduate Degrees

Students with a deeper interest in research and the scientific aspects of fruit and vegetable production can pursue a Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Plant and Soil Science. The main purpose of a graduate program is to provide the opportunity for students to gain knowledge and skills beyond those possible from baccalaureate studies. The principal difference between a B.S. and an advanced degree program is the student's participation and involvement in decision-making processes, generally through research. The major task of a graduate student is to learn how to design, conduct, interpret, and report the results of a research project. A non-thesis option is available for students seeking a Master of Science in Horticulture, with no further plans to pursue a Ph.D. degree.
