Connor Wilmeth is finishing up the first cotton crop he’s ever made on his own. Wilmeth, 20, is a junior plant and soil sciences major at Texas Tech University with “a passion to farm.” He secured a loan on his own this year and is growing cotton on 134 acres of leased land. (more…)

Braced by a strong showing in barrel racing, Texas Tech’s Rodeo Team launched their fall season on a high note, with the women’s team winning first place overall this weekend (Sept. 22-23) at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo in Portales. The women overpowered several teams from the National Collegiate Rodeo Association’s Southwest Region to take the top spot. (more…)

Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources alumni are set to get a warm welcome Saturday (Oct. 13) as the graduates celebrate the Homecoming Breakfast festivities at the university’s Student Union Building in Lubbock. Mindy Brashears, director of Texas Tech’s International Center for Food Industry Excellence, has been selected to serve on a 26-member advisory council to assist in selecting the next president of Texas Tech. Brashears, who is also a professor in Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, is nationally known for developing a treatment shown to reduce food-borne pathogens such as Salmonella and E. coli in processed beef and poultry.
