Next Steps for Admitted Students

Congratulations on your admission to Texas Tech University! We're here to help you with the next steps to becoming a Red Raider!

Take these next steps!

Now that you've been admitted, there are a few important steps to make it official and ensure that you're ready for your first day of classes at Texas Tech. For a personalized checklist of next steps, click below to log in to your Admitted Student Tasklist.

Register for Red Raider Orientation

Red Raider Orientation (RRO) is required for all incoming students attending classes on the main campus. Spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis. To see available dates for your major, click below and log in using your eRaider credentials. During the registration steps, make sure you verify that your major is correct.

International Students Currently Residing in the U.S.:
You may register for any RRO session. In addition, you must attend the required international orientation session. The international admissions hold will be removed only after you attend the international session.

International Students Currently Residing outside the U.S.:
You have the opportunity to meet with your academic advisor virtually and register for classes prior to attending RRO. You must attend your scheduled in-person RRO and the required international orientation session, or you'll be withdrawn from all enrolled courses. The international admissions hold will be removed only after you attend the international orientation session.

Immigration Documents

Check wait times for your local embassy or consulate, as some areas may be experiencing wait times longer than 30 days. You can apply for your visa up to 365 days before the start date listed on your I-20. Complete this process as soon as possible so when your local embassy can take your appointment, you will be ready to proceed with your next steps.

Find your EducationUSA center to get additional help with your Visa process and prepare you for your departure to the United States.

Log into RaiderConnect to submit the following documents:
  • Upload passport biography page
  • Upload proof of funding
  • Submit the Financial Affidavit Form
  • Submit the Supplemental Student Information Form
International students in the US on an F1 visa must also submit:
  • Copy of F1 Visa
  • I-94
  • Transfer SEVIS record after the final exam of the semester before your term of entry at Texas Tech. Be sure to email your admissions counselor before releasing your SEVIS record.
Note: The F-1 student immigration document (I-20) will be sent to both new first time and transfer students after the student is admitted and has provided all of the required documentation.

If you are currently residing outside the U.S. and will make your initial entry into the US to begin a program at Texas Tech, you will need to apply for a student visa at a US Embassy or Consulate. If you are currently in the U.S., you are unable to apply for a new visa. Expired F1 visas (only applies for those currently in the U.S.) are not a problem unless you need to travel outside the U.S. and plan to re-enter. Learn about the complete list of documents you need to compile for your new visa application at travel.state.gov.

Additional Resources: Transfer students will work with Texas Tech International Undergraduate Admissions staff and immigration support personnel at their current institution to transfer their record in SEVIS to Texas Tech University. Items for your visa application include:
  • Unexpired passport that is valid for at least 6 more months
  • Proof of financial support as reflected on the I-20
  • Your Texas Tech admission letter
  • A valid I-20 issued by Texas Tech
  • Official academic transcripts

All international students residing outside the U.S. need to provide proof of the confirmation of the F-1 visa appointment or a copy of the F-1 visa (when issued) through RaiderConnect.

Once this is received, international students residing outside the U.S. will have the opportunity to virtually meet with their academic advisor and register for classes prior to arrival in the U.S. and prior to attending their scheduled in-person Red Raider Orientation. All registration holds will need to be removed in order to register for classes.

All international students currently inside the U.S. can attend any Red Raider Orientation session where they will meet with their academic advisor in-person and register for classes.
