National Merit Semifinalist
Students named as semifinalist are encouraged to follow the directions set by the National Merit Corporation to apply for finalist standing. Additionally, we encourage you to make contact with Texas Tech University to begin a dialogue of your options as a student including your academic and extracurricular aspirations. Requirements and Instructions for Semifinalists
National Merit Finalist
Students that reach finalist standing will be notified in February by the National Merit Corporation. Qualifying students who designate Texas Tech University as their first choice institution are eligible to receive our National Merit Finalist Scholarship which guarantees 100% of the approved cost of attendance. Below is a breakdown of the scholarship amounts.

The National Merit Scholarship is funded by a combination of federal, state and institutional gift aid funds from grants and scholarships. Loans are not included in the National Merit Scholarship.
Non-resident Students
National Merit Finalists who select Texas Tech University and are not residents of the State of Texas, qualify for Texas Tech's National Merit Scholars Program.
Renewal
Students that qualify for participation in this program will be eligible for 4 years of undergraduate studies. Students should enroll in 30 hours per academic year and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA.
Deadline
The deadline for National Merit Finalist to declare Texas Tech University as their college of choice is April 1.

Yes, this scholarship is awarded to qualifying students for 4 years at Texas Tech University, which can include graduate or law school.
Yes, the National Merit Scholarship does assist in covering study abroad trips in fall and spring semesters.
Each student is awarded half the cost of attendance in the fall and then half in the spring. Tuition, fees, room and board are deducted from the student's bill and then any remaining amount is refunded back to the student.
Yes, all National Merit Finalist receive automatic admission into the Texas Tech Honors College. Simply apply and notify Mason Seyl. Apply at honors.ttu.edu.
