Jeffery Dailey Memorial Endowed Graduate Fellowship

The Jeffery Dailey Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 2023 by his mother, Patricia K. Rogers, to provide scholarships to graduate students conducting research in the area of farm animal behavior and physiology with a special emphasis on pigs and cattle within the department of Animal and Food Science.

Jeffery William Dailey passed away on January 3, 2022. Born on February 8, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jeff was a 1983 alumnus of Mercersburg Academy and graduated from Penn State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Production. After college Jeff joined the Peace Corps, volunteering for two years in Botswana to help others in the agricultural sector. He was especially proud of that experience. Upon his return, Jeff joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Research Service, serving first at the Livestock Behavior Research Unit in West Lafayette, Indiana, and then at the Livestock Issues Research Unit in Lubbock, Texas. Jeff earned his Master of Science in Animal Behavior from Texas Tech University in 1995. He was a key member of the Livestock Issues Research Unit, providing expertise in animal behavior, automated gathering of data about animals and facilities, and use of technology to numerous individuals throughout the United States and Canada. He was a founding member and coordinator of the Livestock Issues Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Jeff was a kindhearted person, always eager to help people personally and professionally. He enjoyed teaching students and collaborators, and initiated a bibliographic database for their use that currently contains nearly 48,000 peer-reviewed research papers. Jeff loved his friends and family deeply. He left the legacy of a life well lived and will always be remembered as a kind and charitable person with a wry sense of humor. As an expression of Jeff's loving and generous spirit, he had decided that his organs should be donated so others may live.
