Jack and Mildred Buchanan Rodeo Endowed Scholarship
The Jack and Mildred Buchanan Rodeo Scholarship Endowment was established by Jack
and Mildred Buchanan in 2012.
Jack W. Buchanan graduated from Texas Tech University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science
in Animal Production. His wife, Mildred, graduated from Texas Tech University in 1952
with a Bachelor of Secondary Education. Jack farmed and ranched in Howard County for
over 60 years. He also served as a Howard County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace.
Jack was a member of several organizations and clubs including the Big Spring Rodeo
Association, Masons and Lions Club. He won numerous awards and trophies, won trips
and honors, including being inducted into the Texas Tech Rodeo Hall of Fame. Mildred
was a teacher at Big Spring ISD for many years. Jack passed away in 2016 at the age
of 89. Mildred continues to reside in Stephenville, TX.
