The Doc Harbaugh Scholarship was established in 1969 by contributions of ex-students
and friends of Fred G. Harbaugh to provide a scholarship to a junior animal science
major.
Fred G. "Doc" Harbaugh received a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
from Iowa State University. He was a member of the then Department of Animal Husbandry
faculty from 1927 until he retired in 1971. He served as the department veterinarian,
and taught courses in livestock diseases and meat processing. His first responsibility
was to take care of the health of the college herds. Over his years at Texas Tech,
he advised more than 1,500 farmers a year on animal health issues.
