The Ray C. Mowery Scholarship Endowment was established in 1961 by Mrs. Ray C. Mowery
and former students of Ray C. Mowery to provide financial assistance to deserving
junior Animal Husbandry majors.
Ray Mowery was the first livestock judging coach for Texas Tech. He taught agricultural
education at Lubbock High School before teaching at Texas Tech when its doors opened
in 1927. He had received his Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M in 1921 and Master
of Science from Iowa State in 1926. Mowery retired from the department in 1960.
