Jack and Pat Adkins Endowed Scholarship

The Jack and Pat Adkins Scholarship Endowment was established by the estate of Jack and Pat Adkins in 2010. Funds will provide scholarships to students enrolled within the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources who have a financial need.

Jack was born October 6, 1936 to Milburn Jasper and Ima Veva (Houser) Adkins in Waller. Shortly after that the family moved to McDade where he grew up. Jack graduated from Elgin High School. He then went off to college in Lubbock, where he put himself through school by working as a horse trainer. Ranching and horses became his life's passion at an early age and followed him through life. After graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Production in 1960, Jack attended UT's School of Pharmacology to become a Pharmacist.

He moved to Georgetown in 1969 and went to work at Gus's Pharmacy. In 1972 Jack partnered with Gus Steenken and Gene Jacob to form Centex Pharmacies. The group has operated successful pharmacies in Georgetown, Leander, Temple, Cedar Park and Bastrop. He was still active in caring for his customers when his health failed him. Jack was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Georgetown. He was married to Patricia A. Adkins, who also graduated from Texas Tech University, until her death in 2005. He then remarried to Carolyn Adkins. Jack passed away May 7, 2009.
