The Gladys Manjeot Memorial Scholarship of District I, Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. Endowment was established by the District I, Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. in memory of Gladys Manjeot in 1997. These scholarships are available for upperclassmen majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, plant pathology, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, city planning, land management or allied subjects.

Gladys Manjeot was a 39-year member of the Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.

The Texas Garden Clubs, Inc., started in 1928, and has its State Headquarters in Fort Worth on the grounds of the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, across the parking lot from the Garden Center and Conservatory. Their missions is to promote the love of gardening across the state of Texas.

District I is comprised of 59 counties stretching from the Panhandle, south through the South Plains and Permian Basin area. It was established in 1946 with seven enrolled clubs. Membership increased rapidly as word spread and new clubs were organized. One of the first projects was the publishing of a "Planting Guide" applicable to District 1, sales resulting in $1,800 over several years.

In 1949, it was a dream of a number of the members that an annual scholarship be given to a worthy student at Texas Tech studying horticulture or an allied subject. Spearheaded by Gladys Manjeot of Hereford, who served as District Governor from 1953 to '55, it was voted to set aside the money to begin an annual scholarship fund for one student. The first scholarship of $250 was awarded in 1955 and named in honor of Gladys Manjeot.

Gladys continued to be an avid supporter of this project. Upon her death in the spring of 1977, a number of memorials for her were given by friends and family to the scholarship fund. In 1997, the opportunity arose to establish a scholarship in her memory within the Texas Tech Foundation, allowing for it to continue in perpetuity and become a legacy from District 1.
