David McKay Memorial Scholarship

The David McKay Memorial Scholarship was established in 2018 by Judy Ribble in memory of her good friend David McKay to benefit students in the Department of Landscape Architecture.

David McKay was born August 15, 1958 in Amarillo to Mary Ann and Joe McKay and grew up in Lubbock. He graduated Monterey High School in 1977 and earned a degree in Landscape Construction from Mississippi State University.

Growing up as a child at the Palo Duro Club, one of his dreams was to one day be the Caretaker, which he achieved. With passion and tireless effort, he served as Caretaker for 15 years. David was a friend to many people who represented various aspects of his life.

He never met a stranger and gave much to others without expecting anything in return, from the smallest act of kindness to the greatest. His children, Charley and Jack, were the joys of his life and his priority. David volunteered in many ways at their schools and was recognized with the PTA Lifetime Member Award from the Crestview PTA for his service from 2008-2013.

David passed away April 12, 2018 at age 59.
