Schedule for May 12-26 European garden tour set
The itinerary for an innovative study abroad class that will take Texas Tech University students to prominent gardens in France, Luxembourg and Belgium has been finalized.
The special trip, which runs from May 12 to 26, is worth three credit hours towards a horticulture major or minor, and may qualify as a multicultural general education core requirement, officials said.
French Agriculture. "While in Paris we'll be given a tour of AgroParisTech, the French Agriculture University," said Ellen Peffley, a professor of horticulture in Texas Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science and recipient of the 2005 Chancellor's Council Award for Distinguished Teaching.
The class also includes tours of several gardens and museums in Paris and the surrounding communities, as well as Giverny, Normandy, Northern France, and Southern Belgium. In addition, participants will visit significant World War II American battles sites including the Normandy beaches and Belgian Ardennes.
Among the highlights in France are Le Chateau de Versailles, Le Chateau de Vaux-Le-Vicomte, AgroParisTech, Monet's home and garden and Normandy Beach. In Belgium there is Durbury and Bastogne. One the featured spots on the Luxembourg portion of the tour are the roses of the Limpertsberg.
