New agricultural education assistant professor hired at CASNR
Jonathan Ulmer has been named an assistant professor in Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. He began his teaching and research duties on June 1.
"Jonathan brings a strong background in agricultural education, and experience in working with the National FFA Organization," said Steve Fraze, interim chairman of Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. "We're excited to have him join our faculty.
"Research Focus. Ulmer's research focus will be on teacher development, teacher discourse and behavior and survey design. In the past he has conducted an evaluation of leadership training opportunities offered by the National FFA Organization, as well as a study on acceptance of ethanol-blended gasoline in Oklahoma.
Before joining Texas Tech, Ulmer was a professional development specialist in agricultural education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. And prior to beginning his graduate education, he worked as an agri-science teacher and FFA Advisor at Medicine Valley High School in Curtis, Nebraska.
"I'm excited about this opportunity," Ulmer said. "I look forward to working with the faculty and students here in Lubbock."
Agricultural Education. Ulmer received his bachelor's degree in agricultural education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his master's degree in agricultural education from Oklahoma State University. His doctorate in teacher education is from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Awards for Ulmer include author of the year from the "The Journal of Agricultural Education" editing managing board (2007), University of Missouri-Columbia College of Education High Flyer Award (2004, 2005), and Oklahoma State University Excellence in Research Award "" Education: Master's Division (2003).
He is a member of the American Association for Agricultural Education, National Association of Agricultural Educators, and the Association of Career and Technical Education.
