Name: Aspen Eaton; Major: Agricultural Communications; Minor: International Agribusiness; Classification: Junior; Organization: Agri-Techsans; Hometown: Ovalo, Texas; Month: October
Aspen Eaton, a junior agricultural communications major from Ovalo, has been named Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources October Agri-Techsan of the Month.
"I'm truly honored to be named Agri-Techsan of the month," Eaton said. "Knowing that I am able to have an impact on several students, just as Agri-Techsans had an impact on me is very rewarding."
She has come full circle with Agri-Techsans; her decision to attend Texas Tech was heavily influenced by the organization during high school. Aspen said she is a proud member of CASNR, and enjoys the family atmosphere available to its students.
"I came from a small town and school, and was worried that Texas Tech might be too big for me. But in CASNR they take the time to not only get to know you, but your family and where you came from as well," Eaton said. "I know that I can go to anyone within CASNR if I need help with anything from homework to finding where I should get my hair cut. I feel like that's what sets CASNR apart from other schools."
After graduation, Eaton plans to pursue a career with either a graphic design or public relations company where she can help clients' ideas and dreams come true.
Brandyl Calley, CASNR's College Recruiter, said the student organizations does yeoman's work in promoting the college. The Agri-Techsans are the official student recruiters for CASNR. The undergraduates can come from every department, and bring with them different backgrounds from rural areas to large metropolitan areas.
Agri-Techsans give tours of the college's facilities, including the horticultural gardens and the meat laboratory on campus, as well as the research farm at New Deal, and the Texas Tech Equestrian Center in southwest Lubbock.
