Davis College congressional summer interns on the ground in Washington
By: Norman Martin
Three specially-selected students from Texas Tech's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources are spending their summer working as interns in Washington, D.C. Running from May through August, the college's congressional intern program affords these students an opportunity to experience first-hand the government's day-to-day operations.
"Intern selections are always an exciting and difficult process," said Davis College Interim Dean Cindy Akers. "The program is one of the most unique student programs that the college has for Davis College students."
This summer's Washington, D.C.-based interns include:
- Cassady Craddock, a senior animal science major from Howe, Texas (U.S. Representative August Pfluger, R-TX 11th District)
- Kaitlyn Neal, a senior agricultural communications major from Las Cruces, New Mexico (U.S. Representative Yvette Herrell, R-NM 2nd District)
- Claire Shelton, a senior agribusiness major from Krum, Texas (U.S. Representative Michael Burgess, R-TX 26th District)
Davis College interns live in the 'Tech House' during their stay in Washington D.C., which is located just over a block away from the Capitol Building. Their living expenses are offset through scholarships from generous donors.
