Davis College Awards Ceremony honors outstanding faculty, staff members

Nine standout faculty and staff members were honored for service and support of Texas Tech University's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources Thursday (Aug. 27) during a special evening ceremony at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center.
“As much as we are highlighting some exceptional work tonight, we're also talking about exceptional individuals,” said Davis College Dean Clint Krehbiel. “They are certainly deserving recipients of these annual awards.”
The 2023 Davis College award recipients included:
- Davis College Teaching Award: Lindsay Slaughter, Associate Professor (Department of Plant & Soil Science)
- Davis College Research Award: Kristin Hales-Paxton, Associate Professor (Department of Animal & Food Sciences)
- Davis College Jr. Faculty Award: Scott Collins, Associate Professor (Department of Natural Resources Management)
- Davis College Service/Outreach Award: Erica Irlbeck, Professor (Department of Agricultural Education & Communications)
- Davis College Student Advising Award: Joey Young, Associate Professor (Department of Plant & Soil Science)
- Davis College Instructor Award: Jared Horsford, Lecturer (Department of Landscape Architecture)
- Davis College International Impact Award: Courtney Meyers, Professor (Department of Agricultural Education & Communications)
- Davis College Staff Award: Laci Hardman, Senior Director of Administration & Finance (Davis College Dean's Office)
- Davis College Research Staff Award: Mylea Lovell, Institute of Genomics for Crop Abiotic Stress Tolerance - Phytotron Manager (Department of Plant & Soil Science)
Earlier Thursday afternoon, Davis College leaders met with members of the Davis College Advisory Board for a half-day meeting at the newly renovated Texas Tech Dairy Barn. The advisory board agenda called for a state of the college presentation from Krehbiel, as well as panel discussions on ‘Emerging Issues Facing Agriculture & Natural Resources;' along with presentations on ‘Davis College Priorities for Research, Outreach & Engagement;' and ‘Davis College Priorities for Teaching, Workforce & Wellness.'
On Friday morning (Aug. 18) Davis College faculty participated in a retreat at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center with introductory comments were provided by Krehbiel, along with presentations by Texas Tech Provost Ronald Hendrick and Kristina Butts with Texas Tech Government Relations. The session also included panel discussions on assimilating student growth, building research capacity and workplace wellness.
