CMLL Passport Party

rec1

Texas Tech Transition & Engagement hosted Raider Welcome for two and a half weeks of fun beginning on Move-In from August 11 until August 28, 2021. The activity-packed days not only welcome back current students but also introduce new students to many campus resources. This is a terrific way for departments to display their programs. CMLL's Passport Party offers an inside peek into languages & cultures with beautifully dressed cultural tables teamed with CMLL faculty and current students ready to present information on language courses, language clubs, scholarships offered in the department.  Students travelled the world without leaving Lubbock!

Texas Tech College of Arts & Sciences Day

rec2

The south lawn of Holden Hall was once again covered with tents for Arts & Sciences Day on August 25, 2021.  Students could visit with College of Arts & Sciences faculty and advisors to learn about the programs and majors housed in the college.  CMLL advisors engaged in many conversations about the importance of language in a global society. Students learned about the faculty-led study abroad programs and tested their global awareness in playing Spin the Language & Culture Wheel.

Texas Tech Preview Day

rec3

The United Supermarkets Arena was abuzz with 4,103 high school students and their parents for Texas Tech Preview Day on October 11, 2021.  This year the turnout was much bigger than years prior! CMLL advisors staffed the CMLL table where prospective students learned about the department, the language majors and minors offered.

Texas Tech Majors & Minors Fair

rec4

Over 900 Texas Tech students meandered through the maze of tables set up in the Student Union Ballroom on October 21 to talk to faculty and advisors about majors and minors offered at Texas Tech. Spin the Language & Culture Wheel game drew students to engage in conversations about the majors and minors offered in the department.  These rich conversations led to student discoveries that they can double or dual major and can double minor in languages. This eye-opening discovery opens doors for enhancing their resume for future employment by learning languages that complement their field of study.

On October 1st, 2021, Lubbock High School students in two Chinese classes had a joyful day learning Chinese through the art of calligraphy. The Director of the Chinese program, Dr. Yanlin Wang (on right), and CMLL Ambassador, Olivia Jones (on left), excited the students to learn Chinese for their future careers. Also, Dr. Chris Wright (center) performed a magic show with colorful silks to teach the colors in Chinese. The students received Chinese candies, program brochures, bookmarks and TTU pens. We are grateful for their teacher, Amelia Xie, and LISD Instructional Specialist, Laura Cook, for their support!
