Explore Engineering Overview

Program Introduction

We are excited to welcome you to the Texas Tech Whitacre College of Engineering! This camp will provide an opportunity to spend a week as a Texas Tech Engineering student. You will be introduced to engineering concepts and gain experience with classroom lectures, hands-on group projects, and campus life. Your day will be structured as a current engineering student. We will also highlight campus resources such as admission requirements, financial aid, student support, and many more. You will reside in a residence hall on campus for the week to bring your campus experience full-circle.

This week will bring you firsthand insight to the world of engineering and Texas Tech University!

Who Should Apply?

This camp is targeted to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with an interest in pursuing a career in engineering.

  • You must be entering 2026-2027 as a sophomore, junior, or senior year in high school
  • Complete the online application by Friday, March 27th, 2026.

Participants will be chosen based on their completed application. Accepted applicants will be notified by email on or before Friday, April 10th at 5:00 PM CST. Upon acceptance, you will need to submit the $400 camp fee using the link provided in your acceptance email.

Overview of the Week

Dates and Location

Sunday, June 14th – Thursday, June 18th, 2026, at Texas Tech University Campus in Lubbock, Texas

Schedule

Sunday

Check in to residence halls, camp introduction, team-building activities, and workshops.

Monday - Wednesday

Morning lectures on engineering concepts, seminars on professional development, admissions, financial aid, and campus resources. The afternoon includes engineering projects, dinner, campus activities.

Thursday

Parents and guests are encouraged to attend our closing presentations, including the Group Project presentation which your student will be working on thorughout the week. *Schedule is subject to change. Classes may begin on Sunday. 

Cost

$400

Full cost per participant is $1100. Through a generous contribution from Halliburton, each student receives an automatic $700 scholarship toward the cost of the summer camp. 

Payment will be received by card at the link provided in your acceptance email. Camp payment is due Friday, May 1st, 2026. 

Cost covers residence hall stay, meals, project supplies, camp T-shirt, and campus activities. Extra spending money may be sent upon the discretion of the parents, which can be spent on Texas Tech memorabilia, snacks at the on-campus stores, and/or lost key to residence hall.

Students will need to bring their laptop or tablet to work on the engineering project. Please view the Frequently Asked Questions for more details on camp activities, packing lists, and requirements for attending camp.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your registration for any reason you must do so by Friday, May 8th. No refunds will be given after that date.

The Whitacre College of Engineering reserves the right to cancel the camp due to insufficient registrations. If the event is canceled for any reason, you will be notified immediately and all fees will be returned in full.

The Explore Engineering Counselor Application is closed and will reopen February 2026. Only current Texas Tech students in good standing in the Whitacre College of Engineering are eligible to be counselors.
